Usage
{{Infobox Laser module}} may be used to summarize information about a particular laser module. Also adopted to describe specifications for laser rangefinders and target designators. This was roughly based on the Military History Infobox and Night Vision Device Infobox to maintain uniformity during information crossovers.
{{Infobox Laser module | name = | image = | caption = | origin = | functions = <!-- Service history --> | service = | used_by = | wars = <!-- Production history --> | designer = | design_date = | manufacturer = | unit_cost = | production_date = | number = | variants = <!-- General specifications --> | weight = | dimensions = | op_time = | other_features = <!-- Viewer specifications --> | View_therm = | View_waveband = | View_display = | View_fov = | View_zoom = | View_range = <!-- IR Laser Specifications --> | IR_Las_class = | IR_Las_output = | IR_Las_divergence = | IR_Las_wavelength = | IR_Las_range = <!-- Visible Laser Specifications --> | Vis_Las_class = | Vis_Las_output = | Vis_Las_divergence = | Vis_Las_wavelength = | Vis_Las_range = <!-- IR Illuminator Specifications --> | IR_Illum_class = | IR_Illum_output = | IR_Illum_divergence = | IR_Illum_wavelength = | IR_Illum_range = <!-- Visible Flashlight Specifications --> | lumens = <!-- Target Designator Specs --> | Target_class = | Target_output = | Target_divergence = | Target_wavelength = | Target_range = | Target_accuracy = <!-- Laser Rangefinder Specifications --> | Range_class = | Range_output = | Range_divergence = | Range_wavelength = | Range_range = | Range_accuracy = }}
Note: When using parameters, avoid the ambiguous abbreviation "N/A", and instead use "unknown" or "none", or simply leave blank. All subjective or qualitative judgements and numerical quantities or statistics must be cited to a reliable source.
The infobox is intended as a quick reference. Don't add non-data items, like question marks, “none”, “see text” or links to article sections (the article's table of contents already does this). Only add “unknown” to assert that an information point is unknowable, not as a placeholder to show that it is missing from the article. Choose a representative model and indicate what it is with the spec_label
parameter, instead of listing multiple data items in one field.
Where multiple values are shown, separate them using {{Plainlist}} or {{Flatlist}}.
The template can also be used for general categories of laser modules by including only some general characteristics.
General parameters:
- name – the formal name of the laser module and any alternate names (for the same module).
- image – optional – an image of the laser module. The image must be given in the form
[[File:Example.jpg|300px]]
; in particular, the thumb attribute must not be selected. - caption – optional – the text to be placed below the image.
- origin – optional – the country or place where the laser module originated or was first manufactured.
- function - the functions of the laser module (IR laser, Visible laser, IR illuminator)
Service history parameters:
- service – optional – the period (usually given in years) when the laser module was in service.
- used_by – optional – the countries, armed forces, or other groups using the laser module; this may be omitted for laser modules employed only in their country of origin.
- wars – optional – any wars during which the laser module saw service.
Production history parameters:
- designer – optional – the person or group responsible for designing the laser module
- design_date – optional – the date (usually given as a year) when the laser module was designed.
- manufacturer – optional – the manufacturer of the laser module.
- unit_cost – optional – the unit cost of the laser module in US dollars; this should only be indicated for laser modules currently being produced.
- production_date – optional – the period (usually given in years) when the laser module was produced.
- number – optional – the number of laser modules of this type that were manufactured.
- variants – optional – any variant models of the laser module including "offshoots" (including when variant is unrelated by manufacturer or design to the original)
General specification parameters
- weight – optional – the weight of the laser module. Example:
{{convert|11.3|lb|kg|2|abbr=on|lk=on}}
- dimensions – optional – the dimensions of the laser module. L × H × W in centimeters. Example:
{{convert|11.2|x|13.2|x|5.2|in|cm|abbr=on|lk=on}}
- op_time – optional – The usable time on one battery (including on various power settings)
- other_features - Optional - list any additional features the laser device may have
Viewer specifications
- View_therm – optional – What type of thermal equipment is being used (if any)
- View_waveband – optional – List the wavebands the viewer can detect
- View_display - optional - List dimensions of the module
- View_fov - optional - Field of view when looking through the optic, especially on different zoom values
- View_zoom - optional - Zoom capability of the machine
- View_range - optional - Range(s) at which the user can detect objects by detection (seeing something is there), recognition (being able to tell what the overall object is), and identification (being able to pick out details on the viewer
