File:Edit-copy green.svg | This is a documentation subpage for Template:Infobox automobile platform. It contains usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
File:Information icon4.svg | This template adds an automatically generated short description. If the automatic short description is not optimal, replace it by adding Short description at the top of the article. |
Usage
This template is used in articles about motor vehicle platforms.
- See the Description section of this document for basic explanations of what data to enter in each parameter.
- See WikiProject Automobiles/Conventions for detailed explanations of what data to enter in certain parameters and instructions on how to correctly format the data.
- When entering more than one data point per parameter, use the unbulleted list template fact one to put each entry on a separate line. Do not use <br /> to create line breaks in the infobox.
- In the infobox templates below, conversion templates have been provided for your convenience. After copying the infobox template into the article, enter the data, replacing "NNNN" with numeric entries. When entering data into the conversion template, enter digits without thousands separators; i.e. 4287 not 4,287.

Description
Below are basic description of what data should be entered for each parameter. For detailed explanations of what data to enter in each parameter and instructions on how to correctly format the data, please see WikiProject Automobiles/Conventions.
- name
- The name field states the full, official name of the platform. The name appears at the top of the infobox outside the border. Generally, the data entered in this field will match the title of the article.
- image
- A front three-quarter view (a vehicle parked at an angle relative to the photographer so that the photo shows the front and side of the vehicle) of a vehicle based on the platform, preferably taken against a non-distracting background, containing no other vehicles and with the sun shining from behind the photographer
- caption
- Year, brand and model of the vehicle used in the image parameter above. Use model year when applicable, otherwise use production year.
- manufacturer
- The entity responsible for the platform's development, although not necessarily the company that assembles or markets vehicles based upon the platform
- parent company
- The legal entity that owns the manufacturer, if applicable
- aka
- Alternate names of the subject platform ("nicknames") – See Notes below for guidance on "Aka" vs. "Related".
- production
- Calendar year (not model year) range during which the manufacturer produced vehicles based upon the subject platform – months are recommended if available, but exact dates are discouraged in the infobox
- assembly
- The assembly field states the country of manufacture first, followed by a colon, and then the exact location, such as the city or town followed by the state or province, if applicable. If the manufacturing or assembly facility has an official name, is a legally incorporated subsidiary, is a partnership, is a joint venture or is an independent third party contractor, list that information in parentheses after the location.
- class
- Class to which the subject platform belongs
- layout
- Layout(s) of the subject platform's drivetrain/powertrain
- body style
- Number of doors and body type(s) built upon the subject platform
- vehicles
- Alphabetical list by brand and model name of finished vehicles built upon the subject platform
- related
- The related field lists similar platforms that are based upon, modifications of or share considerable componentry with the subject platform.
- engine
- Nominal displacement per displacement conventions, the engine name/code in italics, the cylinder configuration, and then in parentheses, the type of forced induction (if applicable) and fuel type. Engine outputs and other data should be excluded.
- transmission
- Number of forward gear ratios, the transmission name/code in italics and the transmission type
- Examples:
6-speed Tremec M3L TR-3160 manual
displays as: 6-speed Tremec M3L TR-3160 manual6-speed Hydra-Matic 6L45 automatic
displays as: 6-speed Hydra-Matic 6L45 automaticCVT Gamma automatic
displays as: CVT Gamma automatic
- Examples:
- wheelbase
- Nominal wheelbase of the subject vehicle
- length
- Nominal length (excluding any non-standard towing equipment) of the subject vehicle
- width
- Nominal width (excluding door mirrors) of the subject vehicle
- height
- Nominal height of the subject vehicle
- weight
- Curb/kerb weight range of the subject vehicle showing the lowest weight and the highest weight for a given body style. Create separate range entries for each body style (coupe, sedan, hatchback, wagon) but do not list the weight of every trim/option level.
- predecessor
- Previous platform from the manufacturer in the segment or similar – leave empty if there is none
- successor
- Subsequent platform from the manufacturer in the segment or similar – leave empty if there is none
Notes
- Aka versus Related
- Aka is intended for alternate names ("nicknames"). Platforms listed in this parameter typically do not have their own articles, instead redirecting to the original article. Related is intended for listing similar platforms that share considerable componentry. Platforms in this field usually have their own articles.
