{{Infobox player of English billiards | name = | honorific_suffix = | image = | image_size = | alt = | caption = | birth_date = <!-- {{Birth date and age|YYYY|MM|DD|df=yes}} --> | birth_place = | death_date = <!-- {{Death date and age|YYYY|MM|DD|YYYY|MM|DD|df=yes}} --> | death_place = | Sport country = | Nickname = | Professional = | High ranking = | Prize money = | High break = | Century break = | Best finish = | Ranking wins = | Major wins = | Minor wins = | Other wins = | World Billiards World Championships = | Women's World Championships = | IBSF World Championships = | website = <!-- {{URL|www.Example.com}} and leave off the "www." part if not necessary --> }}
- All information in the infobox should also be in the article prose, in some (usually more not less detailed) form, and should be sourced there. Please do not put reference citations in the infobox nor add information to the infobox before adding it the main article text. Infoboxes are convenient summaries of important stats from articles; they are not mini-articles unto themselves and should not be treated as such.
|honorific_suffix=
is for things like|honorific_suffix = [[Order of the British Empire|OBE]]
– honorifics of serious significance that are attached to the name in formal address, such as knighthoods and non-honorary doctorates; do not use it for routine things like "BA". It is not necessary to use the{{post-nominals}}
template in this parameter; doing so will make the output smaller (that template is intended for inline use in the article lead, and uses small-caps style).- Images must be specified in a format like
|image=ImageName.ext
– leaving out the[[...]]
bracketing markup causes a table layout error in Internet Explorer. The caption is handled as a separate template parameter,|caption=
, not a[[File:...]]
parameter. - The official rankings for the current season are available here (as of October 2019).
- Fill in what tournaments a player has won in the actual article, in a separate section from the rest, rather than in the infobox. Only list the number of events that player has won, in the infobox's "wins" parameters, apart from the World/Women's/IBSF parameters, where you can list the years. Please don't add amateur, pro-am, team and non-billiards titles to the
|Other wins=
parameter. - The
|Minor wins=
should be used for minor-ranking tournaments. - The
|High break=
parameter is for the highest break, which the player achieved - state which competition it was achieved in. - The
|Century break=
parameter is for the number of century breaks the player has achieved during their career. - The
|Best finish=
parameter, is for listing the best performance of players who have not won a ranking tournament yet, and should list the tournament that the player has progressed furthest in. (Or if the player has reached this stage more than three, than just a number. This achievements should be mentioned in the prose.) - The
|Sport country=
parameter is used here to reflect the sporting nationality of players as competitors. These generally match those of FIFA. It is not the player's legal citizenship (which will often be the same but need not be). In billiards, as in association football, rugby, etc., players usually represent sovereign nation-states, but may represent non-sovereign sub-national entities, such as the constituent countries of the UK (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) for sporting purposes. It is not just Wikipedia that does this, as can be seen at the official International Billiards and Snooker Federation website here. The BBC have also adopted this usage as can be seen here. The Wikipedia usage reflects the real-life usage within the sport. This is a billiards player infobox, not a general biography box and its purpose is to express information about the player in relation to their sport. Finally, this parameter should not be used at all for billiards players not notable as pro or top-flight amateur players, but for another role such as referee, announcer, etc. - Flag templates: Please use flags properly, per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (icons):
- Flag templates are only used for the
|Sport country=
parameter in the infobox (and should be used there, with the excepetion of Northern Ireland, for which see below). Format:|Sport country={{flag|CountryName}}
or|Sport country={{CountryCode}}
- Flag templates are never used for birth/death places (per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (icons)), as this improperly implies citizenship/nationality that simply may not apply (many people are born, and even die, abroad).
- Emphatically do not use the Ulster banner,
{{flag|Northern Ireland}}
or {{NIR}}: File:Ulster Banner.svg Northern Ireland for "Sport country" in billiards player infoboxes. This flag does not officially or civically represent N.I. any longer and hasn't in years. Meanwhile (much more seriously) use of the flag to indicate someone's nationality, in any sense, is a major point of view problem in a Wikipedia article. The flag is a major Unionist political rallying symbol; using it in infoboxes will, for many readers, imply a political position not a nationality, much less a sporting nationality. Technically, the proper infobox usage for people from N.I. would be|Sport country={{Flagicon|United Kingdom}} [[Northern Ireland]]
. Irish Nationalists are equally offended by this, however, making that, too, a PoV-pushing issue. Just don't use a flag for Northern Irish billiards player infoboxes. Therefore simply use|Sport country=Northern Ireland
. - The Ulster Banner is appropriate for use in sports statistics tables, such as tournament results, because the flag, curiously, does have official status in various sport federations as the flag of N.I. for sporting purposes, and it carries no political connotations when used in this context. So, for example, Alex Higgins should have no flag in his infobox, but in ranking tournament results would have the Ulster Banner.
- Flag templates are only used for the
- website: use {{URL}}.

Microformat
The HTML markup produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the person's details parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue articles across Wikipedia or via a browser tool operated by a reader, to (for example) add the subject to an address book or database. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.
Sub-templates
Date-of-birth ("bday") information will only be included in the microformat if {{birth date}}, or {{birth date and age}} are used in the infobox. (Do not use these if the date is before 1583). Be cautious about using these if the person is still living, per WP:DOB.
To include a URL, use {{URL}}.
Please do not remove instances of these sub-templates.
